Most advertising executives and analysts will tell you that Apple's 60-second spot from 1984, a take on the George Orwell novel "1984," is the all-time best Super Bowl ad.
The ad, produced by agency Chiat/Day, shows a woman (the actress Anya Major) running into a drab hall of brainwashed citizens and throwing a sledgehammer at a screen displaying a Big Brother-like face. Scrolling text reads: "On January 24th, Apple Computer will introduce Macintosh. And you'll see why 1984 won't be like '1984.'"
It was the birth of Apple's (AAPL) brand identity as something unique, a way to escape the drone-like corporate world and express your originality. Apple stuck with that branding and still employs it today.
Have a favorite all-time big-game spot? Wonder how it stacks up? Super Bowl's Greatest Commercials
It's old-school vs. new-school on CBS' Super Bowl's Greatest Commercials special this year.
Hosted by The NFL Today analyst Boomer Esiason and Scorpion star Katharine McPhee, the interactive event (now in its 15th year) will pit five more recent commercials, picked by McPhee, against a handful from yesteryear, picked by Esiason.
The year 2014 turned out to be a big one for Hank the Dog, who showed up at the Milwaukee Brewers’ spring training complex in February, in a sadly bedraggled state. That was the last time that Hank would go unloved, as the pooch was effectively adopted by the Brewers and their fans, and officially adopted by a loving family.
Not only did Hank find a good home, he was given another one by the team.
Audience member Karen McGill, with Bagel The Sunglass Cat, walks along the stage at the 2015 World Dog Awards at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, Calif., Jan. 10, 2015.Canine winners, along with a few humans and a cat, will be presented with golden fire hydrant statuettes. The inaugural World Dog Awards, hosted by comic George Lopez, will air Jan. 15 on The CW Network.
When people ask, "Do you live in a barn?" they tend not to mean it as a compliment.
But those people probably haven't seen the work of Bucks County TimberCraft, the company that specializes in turning old Pennsylvania barns into high-end homes, made with antique barn wood but loaded with modern amenities.
Sean Tracy, 49, owner of the company and star of Barn Hunters, a reality show that debuted last fall on Great American Country, not only restores and upgrades old barns for local clients, but also dismantles aging structures - either because the property owners no longer want them, or because developers have other plans for the site - and resurrects them in new locations.
Awards season is underway in Hollywood, but one show will roll out green turf instead of red carpet and celebrate achievements like best mutt instead of best actor.
At the inaugural World Dog Awards hosted by comedian George Lopez, dogs will walk in on artificial grass and wag out with golden fire hydrant statuettes honoring the best in entertainment and social media.
There are no long speeches or fashion critics at the show airing Thursday on the CW Network. At this event, the podium is packed with dog treats, patches of grass allow pets to do their business and signs call for barking instead of applause. Plus, pooches lounge on couches and sniff out swag bags boasting pet food, collars and toys.
The CW network honors man's best friend with The World Dog Awards, a fun, furry, star-studded affair hosted by George Lopez. Extraordinary canines (and one cat) walked the green carpet, sharing the limelight with their human counterparts. The awards ceremony was filmed on Saturday at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica and will air this Thursday, Jan 15th.
Hollywood is finally throwing its dogs a bone during awards season. The CW will telecast the first ever “The World Dog Awards,” to be hosted by comedian George Lopez at Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar on Jan. 15.

"The World's Wildest Commercials," airing THURSDAY, AUGUST 28 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network, features the funniest commercials on the planet. Hosted by "Suburgatory" star and SNL alum Chris Parnell, the hour-long special features a top 20 countdown plus additional wild commercials grouped together in entertaining categories. Highlights include girls who go gaga for their men, animals with attitude, and even spots that hit below the belt. Many of the spots have never before been seen in the U.S.
If there is one thing that America loves more than a live awards show, it's dogs. The CW aims to capitalize on both by launching a new kudo: The World Dog Awards.
Yes, the entire world of dogs will be awarded. That includes the noble animals who risk their lives in the military and offer their assistance as medical service animals — and also dogs from entertainment and viral videos.
For the performance-focused canines, studios should find some relief in the fact that these awards will take place during the traditional Hollywood award season. The inaugural show is set to debut this coming January 2015. Watch your back, Golden Globes.
Believe it or not, HGTV and DIY Network have made room for even more home renovation programming — and without use of a sledgehammer. HGTV has ordered “Crowded House,” ”Tiny House Builders” (working title), ”Half Price Paradise” and “Colonial Rehab” (working title); DIY Network has ordered “Amish RENOgades.”

As more gay athletes *out* themselves, inspiring lots of conversation on professional athletes who happen to be gay, it shouldn't be a big surprise that there's maybe more interest than ever before in film and TV projects highlighting the contributions of gay athletes to professional sports.

Bob Horowitz, president of Juma Entertainment and executive producer of the annual CBS show “Super Bowl’s Greatest Commercials,” says Super Bowl ads are successful if they accomplish one of two things. “They must entertain with clever, over-the-top–but not too silly–creative that has viewers wanting to re-tell punch lines at the water cooler the next morning. Or the commercial has to tug at the heart strings, providing an emotional connection for viewers and the corporate message,” he says “Viewers watch the game to be entertained by those 30 and 60-second commercials. If the spots don’t meet those entertaining expectations, $4 million is wasted.”[read more]
